Benitoite is a rare gemstone that receives its namesake from the San Benito River in California. This gemstone is also sourced in Australia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Asia. While it may look similar to a Sapphire, in terms of hardness the Benitoite is quite soft with a ranking of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs Hardness scale.
