Benitoite is a rare gemstone that receives its namesake from the San Benito River in California. This gemstone is also sourced in Australia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Asia. While it may look similar to a Sapphire, in terms of hardness the Benitoite is quite soft with a ranking of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs Hardness scale. Due to a scarce supply of Benitoite, it is fairly more expensive and uncommon even for most gem enthusiasts to have in their collection. Symbolically this stone is said to bring about positivity and joyfulness.
