Better known as the October Birthstone, the name Tourmaline comes from the words "tura mali" which in Sinhalese means "a stone with mixed colors". Tourmaline is also magnetic when heated or placed under presssure and can change colors depending on the light sourced used to illuminate it. This gemstone is mined all over the world in places like Brazil, Africa, and the USA to name a few places. In the 1800s it was popularized by Tiffany & Co and was given the name "American Gem". Symbolically this gemstone is associated with balancing chakras, boosting self-confidence, and destressing.
