Peridot is most often known as the birthstone for August. The gemstone's name itself can be traced back to Arabic and Greek origins. In Arabic Peridot is said to come from the word "faridat" which means gemstone. In Greek the origin word is called "Peridona" which means "bestowing wealth." Perhaps the main characteristic of this gemstone is the bright green color that it comes in. It does not change color even if placed under light.

ペリドットは、8月の誕生石として最もよく知られています。宝石の名前自体は、アラビア語とギリシャ語の起源にまでさかのぼることができます。アラビア語でペリドットは宝石を意味する「ファリダット」という言葉から来ていると言われています。ギリシャ語では、起源の言葉は「富を授ける」を意味する「ペリドナ」と呼ばれています。この宝石の主な特徴は、明るい緑色です。光の下に置いても色は変わりません。
