In the past, Moonstone has been believed to come from moonbeams and was often attibuted to bringing good fortune as well as increasing affection. Not to be confused with Opalite which is synthetic, Moonstone belongs to the mineral classification called orthoclase feldspar which is made of potassium aluminum silicate. What makes the Moonstone stand out is its Adularescence which is the phenomenon that occurs whenever light shines on Moonstone gems which makes Moonstones give off a soft glow. While this gemstone is often used in jewelry it is prone to breakage.
